The NDC Online Tool is now fully ready to use in English, French, Portuguese and Spanish: watch the video online!

17.09.2020

The NDC online tool has benefited from a number of enhancements and new features in recent weeks and is now fully ready for use by all members of the Organisation of African, Caribbean and Pacific States.

Following multiple online presentations and virtual exchanges organised in recent months, notably in collaboration with the African Union Commission (AUC), COMESA, SADC and the Regional Collaboration Centre St-Georges (on the Caribbean side), the Intra-ACP GCCA+ Programme has continued to refine the ACP NDC online tool with deeper focus on improving users experiences as well as the validation process by countries.

To better familiarise users with the tool, a promotional video of less than 3 minutes has been developed that provides at a glance, an overview of the main advantages of using the online platform (watch below).

Among these new features, access to the platform’s full content in 4 main languages (English, French, Portuguese and Spanish) is to be highlighted. This functionality is particularly useful as the system allows flexibility for users to shift from one language to another, or across one section to another at any time. This allows contributors from different languages or cultures to interact with the same content and resource base.

REGIONAL ORGANISATIONS CAN ALSO USE THE TOOL

Another very interesting feature is the facility for the lead account administrator at the country level to invite other users and contributors in the same online space and in particular the regional organisations, which are also listed in the system. This allows for possibility of each project stakeholder to provide the necessary inputs for reviewing contributions in line with the policies, strategies and actions tailored to the individual needs of each state with due consideration  being given to the Regional approach. Collaborative work is therefore greatly enhanced!

Users can easily generate and download printable reports on the NDC content ready national validation and submission to UNFCCC

Another function also enables observers to be invited to read the reports, without intervening on the actual content of the platform. This greatly facilitates the monitoring process by the decision-makers, the various national bodies, regional or international institutions.

The online ACP NDC Tool provides the flexibility to Member States to address all relevant issues that arise in the context of the preparation of NDCs revision/submission and in coordination with the various sectors of activities as per their commitments under the Paris Agreement. Accordingly, it ensures that all information required by the UNFCCC and the Katowice Guidelines is clearly spelt out in the form of an exhaustive checklist so that they are appropriately addressed by Member States. The tool also provides for inclusion of additional information on Adaptation, Gender, Capacity Building and financial needs.

THE ECOWAS PRACTICAL GUIDE

With the support of the GCCA+ West Africa project, the Department of Agriculture, Environment and Natural Resources of the ECOWAS Commission has recently published a practical “Guide to implementation of the Paris Agreement for ECOWAS Member States”, with financial support from the European Union under the Intra-ACP GCCA+ programme and the technical supervision provided by Expertise France, the implementing agency of the project. This initiative is a useful adjunct to the ACP NDC Online tool.

A webinar to introduce this guide will be held on Friday 25 September 2020 from 9 to 11 a.m and in this context, Dr. Pendo Maro will have the opportunity to make a dedicated presentation on the ACP NDC online tool.
